SO WEIRD: SEASON 3 RE-TELLING

Super excited to share this here! For context, I made a post to see if there was any interest in reading a re-telling of Fi’s story in Season 3, that most of us know got cut short due to Cara DeLizia’s departure. I’ve always wanted closure because in a way, this show kinda defined me as a person. Not to be dramatic. For years I have searched for a Fanfic or unaired scripts that might bring me that closure, but since the show is so niche, fanfics are far and few, and are often about pairings and shippings that I’m not really interested in. I’m a bit of a purist so I wanted to read something that was aligned to the original show. And so I decided, screw it. I’ll take a stab at it.

This is definitely a big passion project for me as I’m not a writer in any sense. But I do have an active imagination and ideas for stories, so I’m giving it a shot. I thought this sub would be a nice place to share the synopsis idea for the episodes so you can get see where my head is at. I’ve already written about 70% of the script for the first episode! I’m thinking that this is something I’ll release over time (because seriously, writing is hard lol and it took my ADHD brain like a week to just write one episode).

Last notes: I’m sticking pretty damn true to the original script and episodes, that includes canon events of the characters with only slight moderations and re-writes. For example, in my re-telling, Annie is a prominent character later in the season. The only difference really is that Annie is not the main protagonist as that will always be Fiona.

I hope you guys enjoy the synopsis for each of the episodes written here! I tried to not be too vague or too revealing of course, but wanted to provide enough context that you kinda get where the story will go.

So Weird Season 3: Re-Written - Episode Synopsis

Episode 1 – Exiled

After a turbulent couple of days in NYC, Fi and crew are headed back to Hope Springs, Colorado when a sudden severe storm stops them in their tracks near a small town in Buffalo. With the help of some hospitable store owners, they’re able to seek shelter at a nearby Motel. But Fi discovers that there is something strange happening to the occupants who stay there and questions if she and her family are being lured into a trap.

Episode 2 – Falter

The crew stops in Ohio for a couple of days, allowing Jack to be reunited with Gabe. Molly, Fi, and Carey decide to give them space and explore Cincinnati. There they encounter a former baseball player of the Cincinnati Reds who happens to be a fan of Mollys. It’s revealed that an accident lead him to be paralyzed from the waist down which is why his career stopped short. But when Fi digs deeper, she finds that there is something or someone else that’s paralyzing him and not the accident.

Episode 3 – Haunted (Halloween episode)

Fi and crew make it to Kansas City and stay at a small BnB for the night where the town is lit up for Halloween festivities. Fi meets a local girl named Kaitlyn who seems to be a bit of a rebellious outcast who also hates Halloween. As they bond over their mutual distaste in mocking of the original Celtic traditions, Fi finds out that Kaitlyn is being haunted by a ghost. And she’s convinced that the ghost is trying to take her with him.

Episode 4 – Rekindle

The crew make it back to Hope Springs and start to settle in when a familiar face makes a surprising visit to their home. It’s Rebecca. She finds the courage to confront Molly and tries her best to explain to her why she seemingly doesn’t age. But while Rebecca does want to rekindle things with Molly, she reveals to Fi that the real reason for her visit is for her.

Episode 5 – Lightning Rod

When family friend Annie comes to stay with the Phillips, Fi encounters Bricriu again who tries to possess Annie but is unable to. Bricriu tells Fi that Annie is protected and that the evils of his world are not fond of her powers either. Annie tells her about the strange discoveries she’s made while on her travels and Fi realizes Annie is more than just a family friend. She may be a powerful ally.

[FYI] I always knew I wanted Annie Thelen to be a secondary main character of this story because despite the backlash about Cara leaving the show, I always liked Annie. She also brings a completely different energy to the show, a light more bubblier tone. Although I want to keep the story dark as it was originally intended, I also want to have Annie’s lighthearted vibe into the mix. I also thought 5 episodes in would be a good point to introduce her to the story without her and Fi feeling like a tag team duo from the start. And yes, I’m totally keeping the original title lol.

Episode 6 – Karma

Fi and Annie are enrolled at Hope Springs High School and as they settle in, they encounter a bully who can’t seem to escape his past. Meanwhile, Jack keeps having re-occuring dreams that keep him up at night.

Episode 7 – Prisoner’s Dilemma

Annie visits a local antique shop when she accidentally runs into a cranky old man. He drops something on his way out which Annie doesn’t notice until a few minutes later. When she’s unable to find him, she takes the item home and shows Fi. Together, they are able to track down the old man to return the object to him. But upon finding him, he reveals that the object is a curse, one where it attracts two people, and the only way to break from it is if they make a decision to save themselves or sacrifice the other.

Episode 8 – Knighted

Jack finds an interest in the school’s chess club and quickly befriends one of the other members who tells Jack of a local tournament he should join. Jack brings Fi and Annie along for support, but they end up being transported to a real game of chess, with knights, kings, pawns, and the like. And the only way for them to escape is if Jack can outplay the opponent.

Episode 9 – Resurgence (Christmas episode)

On Christmas Eve, Molly starts to have visions that come on strongly and frequently. She admits to Fi that this was something she had when she was a child but it went away and she managed to shut it out of her mind. She meets with Rebecca and knows that she was the only person who knew about the visions. Molly also reveals a secret to her family that she has never told anyone, about the events that lead up to her meeting their father.

Episode 10 – Hubris

Annie meets a new boy in her class, Zack Stewart, who seems to think he’s a hot shot. He also has an interest in Annie even though she tries to brush him off. But when he repeatedly asks her out on a date, and with Fi egging her on to give him a fair shot, Annie finally takes him up on the offer, and discovers that he actually isn’t as bad as he seems. While things start off great for the two, Jack is suspicious of Zack and decides to follow him after school, which leads him to discover that he isn’t at all what he seems.

[FYI] This is another originally aired Season 3 nod to the episode “Mr Magnetism”. Since Fi has Ryan as her love interest and Annie never really has one (even though people keep trying to ship her and Jack lol) I thought Mr Magnetism was a nice change up to show that Annie is just a high school girl at the heart of it all and she deserves some attention from boys too. So in order to tie in a “love interest” of sorts, I wanted to introduce this character even keeping his name! I just imagine it to be the same guy but with a different character development.

Episode 11 – Hocus Pocus

Fi and Molly learn more about their lineage and connection to the O’Shannon clan. And with the help of Patrick the Medium, they are able contact the spirits of an ancestor who reveals that some of the things Rick was researching about the spirit realm, were directly related to their ancestry.

Episode 12 – OWLS

Fi discovers a hidden closet in their house that Molly never knew about. Inside, they find a small desk, a chair, and an old typewriter. A piece of paper is still inside the typewriter with a message. Trying to decipher what it means, Fi and Annie try to search online for a possible connection. But when Annie accidentally shows the search on her computer to Zack, he reveals to her and Fi that he knows what it means and finally confronts them about his true intentions.

Episode 13 – Dreamworld

Zack reveals to Fi and her family that there are people involved with Rick that want to meet them, but in order for the arrangement to happen, it must be done in secret and with caution as there are forces that are actively trying to stop them from meeting. He devises a plan for Fi to contact them via ESP but as Fi’s powers are not strong enough, he helps her find a way to contact them in virtual reality, a place called ‘Dreamworld’. Meanwhile, Annie, Clu, and Jack meet a mysterious person who warns them of Zack and the people they are trying to contact, revealing that Zack and his people are the linked to Rick’s accident.

Episode 14 – Offline

As the group becomes desperate to help Fi, Jack and Annie contact everyone they know who can potentially help.

I’m being a bit vague with the next few synopsis’ because they would be continuations of the story that’s close to the end, and the context would reveal too much of what’s going on in the episodes prior. So with that said, these are the last episodes that I had in mind for my re-telling of So Weird Season 3. I don’t plan on extending it more because for me, this is closure that I needed lol. But maybe, could possibly explore alternative endings, Annie’s arc, and non-canon fiction in the future.

Episode 15 – Portal Pt. 1

Molly and the crew find their own way to contact the OWLS and finally confront them about Rick and ultimately, how to find the portal to the spirit realm.

Episode 16 – Portal Pt. 2

Upon the discovery of the portal, only Molly and Annie decide to step into it, as they feel they both have a sense of otherworldly protection. Jack feels it’s his mission to stay behind and protect Fi, and while doing so, for the first time, encounters Bricriu in his whisp form, who reveals to Jack a secret.

Episode 17 – Afterlife

Follows the events of Portal Pt. 2 and what happens afterwards. This is a time skip episode, set 20 years later.
